Muncie Jail Roster Search
The Muncie jail roster lists people currently held at the Delaware County Jail following an arrest by local or county law enforcement. Muncie is Delaware County's seat and its largest city, so nearly all arrests made in the city lead to booking at the Delaware County facility. You can look up current inmates by name through the city's online tools or through the statewide INjail portal, both of which are free to use and updated regularly.
Muncie Quick Facts
Muncie Police Department
The Muncie Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency serving the city. Officers handle patrol, traffic enforcement, and criminal investigations throughout Muncie. The department states: "At the Muncie Police Department, we are committed to taking every action within our power to make our residents and visitors safe and secure." When officers make an arrest, the person is transported to the Delaware County Jail for booking. Muncie PD does not run its own detention facility.
You can reach the Office of the Chief at 765-747-4822. The department works alongside the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, which manages the jail where Muncie arrestees are held. For questions about someone in custody, contact the Delaware County Jail directly. The Delaware County page has contact details and address information for the jail facility.
Muncie Jail Roster Search
The city of Muncie provides a department page that links to inmate search resources at muncie.in.gov. This is a useful starting point if you want to confirm where to look. The page covers local law enforcement contacts and points to the tools used to find current booking information for the Muncie area.
The statewide INjail Public Portal is the most direct way to search for Muncie inmates. Select Delaware County from the county list to pull up current booking records for that facility. The INjail portal below covers jails across Indiana, including Delaware County, and is updated as bookings occur.
Search by first name, last name, or both. Results include the person's booking date, charges filed against them, and current status. If the person you are looking for does not appear, they may have already been released or transferred to another facility. Checking both tools gives you the best chance of finding accurate, current data.
VINE Victim Notification
VINE stands for Victim Information and Notification Everyday. It is a free service that monitors custody status at the Delaware County Jail and sends alerts when an inmate is released, transferred, or has another change in status. Anyone can register, not just crime victims. There is no cost and no need to explain your reason for signing up.
The screenshot below is from the VINE homepage at VINELink.com, where you can create a free account and set up notifications for Muncie and Delaware County inmates.
After registering, you will receive a call or email whenever the person you are tracking has a custody change at the Delaware County Jail. You can also call the VINE toll-free line at 1-866-959-8463 to check on status by phone without creating an online account. The hotline is available around the clock, every day of the year.
Booking Records and Public Access
When someone is arrested in Muncie and booked into the Delaware County Jail, a public record is created. That record contains the person's name, date of birth, booking date, charges, bond amount, and booking number. Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, found at IC 5-14-3, makes most of this information available to any person who requests it. You do not need an attorney or a court order to see basic booking data.
Indiana jail regulations at 210 IAC 3-1-6 set standards for how jails must maintain and report booking records. These rules apply to the Delaware County Jail and help ensure the data you find is accurate and complete. If you need records for someone who was already released, you can submit a written public records request to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. The office must respond within a reasonable time under state law.
Juvenile records and certain sensitive identifiers may be withheld. Active investigations can also limit what gets released. But for most adult bookings, the basic record is open to the public.
Additional Resources
The Indiana Department of Correction Offender Locator is separate from county jail records. IDOC tracks people serving sentences in state prisons, work release programs, and community corrections. If someone is not showing up in the Delaware County jail search, it is worth checking IDOC to see if they were transferred to a state facility. The locator is free and updated on a regular basis.
The INjail Public Portal covers participating county jails statewide. It is useful when you are not sure which county a person may have been booked into, or when you want to check multiple counties without visiting each sheriff's site separately. For Muncie-area searches, filter by Delaware County to narrow results. Both IDOC and INjail are free public tools that require no login or registration.
