Search the Seymour Jail Roster

The Seymour jail roster is operated by Jackson County, not the city. Seymour is the largest city in Jackson County, but it does not run its own jail. When Seymour Police Department officers arrest someone, that person is booked into the Jackson County Jail, also known as the Jackson County Justice Center, at 150 E Base Street in Brownstown. The Jackson County Sheriff manages custody there. This page explains how to find current inmates, look up recent releases, and get information on booking records under Indiana law.

Booking Records and Indiana Public Records Law

When someone is arrested in Seymour and booked at the Jackson County Justice Center, a booking record is made. Indiana's Access to Public Records Act at IC 5-14-3 makes these records public. The law gives you the right to inspect and copy records held by government agencies, which includes county jails. A standard booking record includes the person's name, date of birth, booking date and time, charges, and bond amount.

Indiana administrative code at 210 IAC 3-1-6 sets minimum record-keeping standards for county jails. These rules specify what must be documented at booking and how long records must be kept. Jackson County Jail operates under these state standards.

If the person you want to find is no longer on the current roster, you can ask for their booking record directly from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Submit a written public records request. There is no cost to make the request. The office may charge a small per-page fee for printed copies. Records tied to open investigations may be withheld under certain exemptions in IC 5-14-3, but basic booking information is generally available.

Keep in mind that a booking record is not the same as a conviction. It means someone was arrested and processed into the jail. For case outcomes, use Indiana's mycase.in.gov to search court records by name and find how a case was resolved.
